The 2024 Upper Midwest Employment Law Institute, co-sponsored by Minnesota Continuing Legal Education, the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section, and the Twin Cities Human Resource Association, was held on May 20-21, 2024. Leonard Segal frequently presents at the Upper Midwest Employment Law Institute and, this year, presented two sessions.
Lenny’s first session was a plenary session on anti-harassment policies and complaint procedures. During his presentation, Lenny addressed what constitutes unlawful harassment, what should be included in an anti-harassment policy, what constitutes an effective complaint process, how to respond to a complaint of harassment, and much more.
Lenny’s second session focused on Minnesota’s new earned sick and safe time statute that took effect on January 1, 2024. During his presentation, Lenny discussed the new law’s requirements for accruing and using sick and safe time, what absences are covered by the new law, who constitutes a “family member,” notice requirements for both employers and employees, and other details of the new statute.
