The 2023 Upper Midwest Employment Law Institute, co-sponsored by Minnesota Continuing Legal Education, the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section, and the Twin Cities Human Resource Association, took place on May 18-19, 2023. Leonard Segal was honored to be asked to present again this year, including the 2023 Minnesota Legal Update which was filled with recent (and soon to be) Minnesota legal updates.
Lenny’s Minnesota Legal Update was a plenary session addressing the most significant developments in Minnesota employment law over the past year. The Minnesota Legislature was very busy and, as a result, this was a very well received presentation! Lenny discussed topics including Minnesota’s new laws restricting the use of non-competition agreements, providing state-wide sick and safe time and paid family and medical leave, and legalizing recreational marijuana, the new CROWN Act, and amendments to Minnesota’s laws protecting nursing mothers, lactating employees, and requiring employers to provide pregnancy accommodations. There was much more that Lenny discussed and we hope you were able to attend.
Lenny’s second session was a deeper dive into Minnesota’s new sick and safe time and paid family and medical leave laws. In addition, Lenny discussed the sick and safe time ordinances in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, and Bloomington, and how they were similar to, and different from, Minnesota’s new sick and safe time law.
