The 2022 Upper Midwest Employment Law Institute, co-sponsored by Minnesota Continuing Legal Education, the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section, and the Twin Cities Human Resource Association, took place on May 23-24, 2022. Leonard Segal is a frequent presenter for Minnesota CLE and, in particular, at the Upper Midwest Employment Law Institute, and was back again this year.
This year, Lenny presented two topics. The first was the all-important 2022 Minnesota Legal Update. During this session, which Lenny presented twice, Lenny discussed critical new employment laws, regulations, and developments in Minnesota case law that took place during the past year, as well as pending legislation. Topics ranged from the Crown Act, to minimum wage increases, to pregnancy accommodation requirements, to workers’ compensation and medical cannabis, and much, much more.
Lenny’s second session, which he co-presented with a plaintiff’s employment attorney, addressed employer best practices for anti-harassment policies and complaint procedures. Employers know they need such policies, and know they need effective complaint procedures, but too often they struggle with implementation. The goal of this session was to help employers overcome those stumbling blocks and put in place policies and procedures that will ensure a positive work environment free of unlawful harassment.
