On March 25, 2020, Governor Walz issued Executive Order 20-20 directing all Minnesotans to “Stay at Home” from Friday, March 27 at 11:59pm to Friday, April 10 at 5:00pm. Minnesotans may only leave their residence to perform certain “exempt activities” including, among others, obtaining medical services or medical supplies, procuring necessary supplies like gas, groceries or carry-out food service, outdoor activities, caring for others, or relocation to ensure safety. A complete list of exempt activities is listed in the Order linked above.
The order also applies to businesses. Workers who work in “critical sectors” are exempt from the stay at home order if their work cannot be performed from home. Critical sectors are specifically identified in the Order but include, among others, healthcare, law enforcement and public safety, food and agriculture, child care, energy, water and wastewater, and critical manufacturing. Workers who do not work in “critical sectors” are directed to stay home until April 10 at 5pm.
